Four of our Blitz Dames have travelled to Las Vegas Nevada to attend Rollercon - the Annual International Roller Derby Convention where over 5,000 skaters from leagues across the world congregate in celebration to skate, party and skate some more!

This is the second year that the Blitz Dames have pilgrimaged to the high deserts of Sin City to join forces with other skaters in fever-pitched (and fever-pitched temperatures!) to compete in challenge bout. Last year, Blitz Dames were joined by other girls from London, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, collectively forming Team World, prevailing against opponents Team USA 43-24!

This year, four of the hardest, fastest and most fearless skaters on the league go to represent Birmingham & the West Midlands on the roster for 'Team UK' to face-off against the Australian dream-team the 'Farkin Elles' for the very first time in history!

Double-Trouble jammer / blocker Violet Attack will show them her back on the track.... Hilda Blizzhard will bust that pack wide open with her fearless rampages. TearE Hatchet will no doubt give them a sneer as she slides by them with the longest legs roller derby ever saw... and making them eat track is our legendary Sleazy Rider!

Team UK is a dream-team of skaters from the Blitz Dames, London Rollergirls, Middlesbrough Milk Rollers and London Rockin Rollers.

The challenge bout happens Thursday, 31st July at 10:15pm PDT - (that's 7 hours behind us!)

Even at this time of night the temperatures will be soaring over 41°C!

The challenge bout of Team UK vs Team Oz has been postponed... They're doing it Saturday now --- at an air conditioned venue... more details as I get them!

Ahem, having skated in both (and probably being the only person here who can form a valid opinion about this!) I daresay a lot of things have changed...derby started in Oz in 2007, which means that any team Oz girls would've only had approx a year on track before RollerCon 2008. With the way derby currently stands in this country, I would take any of the three major leagues (Adelaide, Victoria or Sydney) and their A-Team against any UK team (excluding LRG) and I think they would win...yes, even against the Blitz Dames (sorry girls!) - it's actually pretty scary. What we lack here (i.e. geographical proximity to other leagues) we make up for in other areas (facilities, crowds, regular US trainers-Adelaide flies out two trainers from TXRG every year to train the squad!) Derby in Oz is alive, and kicking real hard.

NOW let me clarify this by saying that this in no way is meant to shit-stir (calm down Attack! LOL!) Just that there are lessons that both sides can learn from each other. When I have finished exams, and actually worked myself into the inner structure of ADRD (we're on a break at the moment) I will send you guys some info about how it is done over here...In Adelaide alone we have 100+ new skaters to a yearly fresh meat, average crowds of 1600 people to every bout, thousands of dollars in sponsorship from a variety of different sources, national media attention and a squad of 80+ girls...Oz derby must be doing something right!

So, need another incentive to come to see me now?

Keep burrowing our little mole down under, make them spill their secrets! Of course, it's only to be expected that the Aussies will take a sport that someone else invented and then proceed to be consistently better at it than everyone else... until the Brits realise what's happened and pull their socks up and take back the Ashes!!! Oh wait, hang on, wrong sporting rant... ;)

Betty, if the Oz teams are so wonderful I can only suggest that you get them over here and BRING IT ON. :D

We should totally have a Roller Derby Ashes.

Yes Attack, that's exactly why. It's got nothing to do with the fact that ADRD already have a Betty, or that I have certain 'skills' in other areas...it's all because I'm good at the verbal diaorrehea... ;)

Expensive exercise Typhoid, as wonderous as it would be. I daresay ADRDs focus will be a national tournament before we look overseas...plus I don't know whether you girls could handle losing any more forms of the Ashes....
